Topic: Magic with Selenium – Going beyond browser automation
Abstract: The magical journey of Selenium started in 2004 and there was absolutely no looking back. It is able to win the hearts of millions of test engineers and developers with only one promise: automation of browsers with ease. When we say we have a web application which we need to test, the first choice of automation tool is always selenium due to the maturity and trust it could build over the period of time. Although selenium is predominately used for automating user interactions in a web application, that does not restrict the users to use this powerful weapon for achieving many other tasks via a web application. The motivation behind this talk is to share some cool things we can do using selenium other than just testing web applications. This can also be used to inspire testers to learn the real power of selenium by doing something
interesting and different than testing.
Here is the list of things we can achieve using selenium and many more:
● Playing Games
● Web Scraping to get needed data from a website in a readable format
● Playing our favourite music/video
● Listening to News/Articles/Blogs
● Upload/Download files in bulk
● Doing something creative like drawing/Coloring on canvas
● Submitting big web forms with many fields and pages
Outline/Structure of the Talk
● Explanation of different ways on how to use selenium outside testing
● Code walk through
This talk will provide some cool ways where selenium can be used other than testing.
In the demo the viewers will be able to watch some of the ideas listed above with the
help of a voice assistant and selenium at the back end.
Anyone who knows selenium or wants to learn it.
